To be the Best!There is no tommorrow, so how about today? 2009/2/1 Bonuses, Foreign workers, Banks "Banks collecting billions of dollars in federal bailout money sought
government permission to bring thousands of foreign workers to the U.S.
for high-paying jobs, according to an Associated Press review of visa
applications. "The dozen banks receiving the biggest rescue packages, totaling more than $150 billion, requested visas for more than 21,800 foreign workers over the past six years for positions that included senior vice presidents, corporate lawyers, junior investment analysts and human resources specialists. The average annual salary for those jobs was $90,721, nearly twice the median income for all American households." - AP Investigation: Banks sought foreign workers (http://finance.yahoo.com/news/AP-Investigation-Banks-sought-apf-14217487.html) Yes, Wall Street hands out billions of bonuses each year. Yes, Wall Street hires thousands of foreign workers. And yes, Wall Street received 700 billion TAX PAYER money. Let's see what that implies: Do you know how many hours a typical Wall Street employee works every day? Average works spend at least 10 hours a day at work, those who receive big bonuses usually work for more than 15 hours a day. A 70-hour work week is not unusual here. On the contrary, what's a typical work week for government workers? This is what I see on most of the government website: 9:00am to 4:00pm. Not to mention those lunch breaks. Do you think they deserve some more than average Americans? The number of foreign visas that Wall Street sponsors accounts for only a tiny fraction of all the foreign visas that other companies sponsors each year. The entire Wall Street sponsored H1B workers for the past six years are less than those sponsors by an Indian company Infosys along. Out of the top ten companies receiving H1Bs, there is not a single Wall Street company. (data from wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H1B_visa) Do you know how much money each year Wall Street contributes to IRS? For New York state alone, because of the 44% decline in bonuses this past year, it loses nearly $1 BILLION income tax revenue. Those earns more than the average American contribute to more than 70% of IRS tax income. Don't blame Wall Street for everything, we are NOT communists and people deserve what they work for. 2008/7/20 Leave a footprint here todayA few things to note:
1. Today marks my one year anniversary at the firm, it's been a really challenging year and hopefully I will move further and higher;
2. I bought my first US stock in the past week, and wish it to appreciate in the following year;
3. I am getting closer to my goals.
Most importantly, I have a happy family and I love you all. 2007/7/1 The iPhone launch6/29
In my opinion, Apple is more a fashion company than a technology company, or maybe "fashion-tech" is better. This is my first time going to the Appple store at SOHO NYC. The store is fabulous, unlike the all-metal feeling in the Syracuse store, this one is totally glass-like, even the stairway is transparent. Although most of the stuff selling here is kind of over-pricing, it makes you feel like buying something before you leave when you enter the store.
The official time of launching is 6:00pm, and we arrived at the store at about 8:30pm. People were crowded around the two tables (one on the first floor, and one on the second floor) that had the iPhone on show. You had to get in line to have a chance to touch and operate iPhone yourself. Apple allowed people to actually call phones from the apple on show, I tried my own cell phone and it did ring. It is hard to tell the call quality because it was so noisy there. I saw lots of iPhones pile up there, and there were more people watching there than people who were actually making a purchase.
The iPhone is a nice small all-in-one gadget, the concept is not new, but Apple did a good job of assembling them together and make such a big hype about it; I hate to admit it but it did look and feel better than most of the phones in the market today, and it is more like a work of art.
However, in terms of value, I can hardly agree with it. First, you need to pay at least $500 for the phone itself, to make things worse, you will have to sign up a TWO year contract with AT&T, whose network sucks, at least for the moment. For the functionality, almost everything that it can do is already done by other phones, the only point here is the map; unfortunately it cannot guide you like a GPS will do, you can just get the direction info as you do with yahoo maps.
The bottom line, if you are not a huge fan of Apple, think it over again before you buy the iPhone; remember, unlike previous products from Apple, this one you have to sign up a contract. Anyway, I am gonna stick to my KRZR with Verizon Wireless, it does virtually everything iPhone can do, with better network and best of all, the phone comes free.
不过话说回来,这几天他倒是帮了不少忙,感谢感谢!另外还有系头,挺严肃死板的,但是到点子上还是肯帮忙。操了20几天的心,总算有惊无险,也算万幸了。终于可以安心下来看看书,全力帮gf找到工作,然后好好陪陪父母了。作为一个外国人,找份工作还是很不容易啊;一定要好好珍惜,努力拼,未来十自己的! 2007/4/17 记雪4/15,晚上开始下雪,没怎么在意;
4/16,早上起来,鹅毛大雪仍然在下,地上积了几尺深的雪,似乎又回到了两个月前的情人节大雪;门口一颗4层楼高的松树被雪压倒;
4/16,Virginia Tech发生美国历史上最严重的校园枪击案,死33伤27,就在工程系大楼。好在那边的同学都没事;
4/16,下午雪终于停了。感叹估计这是今年“冬天”最后一场雪了;
2007/3/23 Human natureDon't say "I don't care", if you say that you do care, at the bottom of your heart. human nature.
Back for more.
The squalls hit Syracuse hardest, delivering 10 inches overnight. After a mostly snow-free December and January, Syracuse climbed to over 100 inches for the season with the latest snowfall _ putting it about 14 inches above normal for the winter.
The heavy snow caused a barn in West Monroe to crash down on 27 horses inside. One animal was trapped and rescued by neighbors.
"He was so buried, we didn't even see him when we walked in," said barn owner Candace Cangemi. "We thought he was gone." 2007/1/17 Cold Cold!-17 `C today. Coldest day this winter. My car's driver side door is freezed (the other three are fine but only this one, bad bad).
New York gas price is high, while the nation's average is $2.23/gal, with some places as low as $1.89/gal (Toledo, OH), we are still getting $2.45/gal. |
